Planning a trip to Mo'orea without renting a car? Good news: it’s absolutely possible to enjoy the island without one — as long as you choose the right place to stay.
For solo travelers, backpackers and couples who want to explore the island on foot, by bike or by scooter, Tiahura, on Mo'orea’s west coast, is a particularly convenient area to stay.
Why stay in Tiahura without a car?
Tiahura gives you easy access to many everyday essentials, restaurants and activities without having to rely on a car for every trip.
From the Little Mo’orea Hostel, you’ll find:
A grocery store about 2 minutes away on foot
Several restaurants and local food spots nearby
Les Tipaniers Beach around 10–15 minutes away on foot
Tiahura Public Beach around 25–30 minutes away on foot

Getting around Little Mo’orea on foot
For everyday life, there’s plenty you can do on foot.

If you prefer to rent a car, it’s a good idea to arrange it with the rental company before arriving in Mo'orea. A car is generally a bigger expense than a two-wheeler but it can be a convenient option if you want more comfort or plan to explore extensively.

Enjoying the Tipaniers Lagoon
One of the best things about staying in Tiahura is having easy access to the lagoon and its many water activities.
The beautiful Les Tipaniers Beach is around a 10–15 minute walk from the Little Mo’orea. Further along, past Le Petit Village, you’ll also find Tiahura Public Beach.
Nearby, you can rent a kayak and head out onto the lagoon to discover some of Mo'orea’s best-known spots, including areas where you may encounter stingrays and sharks.
Always remember to respect the animals, give them space and follow local recommendations when exploring the lagoon.
